Attack on Memory is the third album by the Cleveland band Cloud Nothings but the first album that can melt the paint off the walls. This album is early 1990s grunge through and through. The singer sounds like the guy from the Buzzcock on some song and like Phil from Sunny Day Real Estate on others. The guitar is loose and sloppy but vicious like Nirvana. Wasted Days is and will be one of the best songs of the year.

The Truth about ACTA

Last week the internet was all about PIPA and SOPA and now that those have temporarily been put on the shelf due to public outcry (and many government and media websites being taken down by hacktivists). Now there is ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, which establishes international standards on intellectual property. This was drafted mainly by US multinational corporations and the RIAA and MPAA (which were the sole beneficiars and supporters of PIPA and SOPA (there were a large number of multination corporations that stood against these two bills)). ACTA establishes an international legal framework and would create a governing body outside established international institutions. Canada was one of the first countries to join over 6 years ago and has been fully supportive of all the bills that see big businesses wants covered at the expense of their citizens and their privacy.

This song is really slow and dark for Islands but the band have sounded different one each of the three previous albums. The new "This is Not a Song" is from the album A Sleep & A Forgetting and it comes out on Feb. 14, 2012.

This video Chen Guangcheng and his wife released while under house arrest that has brought attention from around the world to the story of this man and the constant Human Rights violations that occur under Chinese Government oppression.Christian Bale heard of this man and his story while filming The Flowers of War, which has been selected as the Chinese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at this years Academy Awards. Worked on this for another 4 or 5 hours and completed the right side of ?uests head. I quickly added some colour so you can see the detail of this sucker. I will hopefully be able to go over the face one last time tomorrow night and then the portrait will be done and I will post it. Then I have to design the background which im looking forward too because I learned some new tricks on photoshop that I will mess around with. Last night the Roots performed a few songs off their new album as well as a skit with Fallon about the albums recording session.

Going overboard on the detail on this one for sure but it will be worth it im sure. I think I will take a break on this one and sketch a few different things out for the next few days.

The duo previously worked with Fincher on The Social Network which they won a best original score Oscar. The soundtrack for this movie contains 3 hours of music and will be available in Mp3, deluxe CD, and a deluxe 6 LP vinyl box. If you click on the album cover below it will take you to Null Corporation Records site where you can download a free 6 track album sampler. Sounds like it will be a very haunting and dark set.

Its been a while since I've put any of my own art up I have been working on getting some shirts and posters together, at the same time I have had to go out of town for work a few times, so the artwork has been slow. I'm going to hopefully have those tshirts ready in a few weeks but more likely it will be longer if I have to go out of town again.

I spent all night making brick brushes for this one and then used a couple photos that I liked the colour to layout a starting point. I think this one could take me a while but its going to be good.

Memory Tapes: Magic Sequence

When Memory Tapes released their first album a few years ago they also released Magic Sequence, a mixtape with alternative versions of songs on that first album, as well as many unreleased songs. I haven't listened to this mixtape in years due to being forgetten because of the perfection of their Chillwave debut. This morning it came on and thanks to shuffle on iTunes I rediscovered that this is just as good, if not better then the album. Click on the image to download Magic Sequence for free.

I found out about Justin Reed's work through my Aunt a few weeks ago after she bought a few prints of his. He paints collages of charactures and portraits from different movie scenes. His work is dissportionate and warped, which I really like.
