Beck: “NYC: 73-78″

The new double-CD compilation Rework: Philip Glass Remixed, put together by Glass and Beck, has a ton of indie stars remixing pieces from the experimental music legend. Dan Deacon, Tyondai Braxton, Memory Tapes, Cornelius, Pantha Du Prince, and many others contribute, and Beck himself has turned in the 21-minute “NYC: 73-78,” which stitches together and reworks a number of different Glass pieces.

Japandroids: The House That Heaven Built

The duo from Vancouver, Japandroids newest single off their second album Celebration Rock.  This is an awesome song for the summer and a great video documenting the band touring.

Islands: This is Not a Song

 
It didn't take Nick Thorburn very long to release a new album with Islands, having just finished touring with Mister Heavenly.  This song is really slow and dark for Islands but the band have sounded different one each of the three previous albums.  The new "This is Not a Song" is from the album A Sleep & A Forgetting and it comes out on Feb. 14, 2012.

The singer sounds almost exactly the same as the guy from Tapes n' Tapes and the woman and the melodies sounds like Bodies of Water and the music is lo-fi, hazy, classic folk rock psychedelia.

A video the matches the batshit insanity of the song and its warped lyrics.  One of my favorite songs of the year and one of the coolest videos.

Memory Tapes: Magic Sequence

When Memory Tapes released their first album a few years ago they also released Magic Sequence, a mixtape with alternative versions of songs on that first album, as well as many unreleased songs.  I haven't listened to this mixtape in years due to being forgetten because of the perfection of their Chillwave debut.  This morning it came on and thanks to shuffle on iTunes I rediscovered that this is just as good, if not better then the album.  Click on the image to download Magic Sequence for free.

Real Estate

Here is a new song from Real Estates second album, Days, which comes out October 18th.  Their first album was perfect for listening to while relaxing in the sun, so the fall release date is kind of odd, but whatever new Real Estate is always good new no matter the season.  Below are a few of my favorite tracks from their first record.
