Cloud Nothings

Attack on Memory is the third album by the Cleveland band Cloud Nothings but the first album that can melt the paint off the walls.  This album is early 1990s grunge through and through.  The singer sounds like the guy from the Buzzcock on some song and like Phil from Sunny Day Real Estate on others.  The guitar is loose and sloppy but vicious like Nirvana.  Wasted Days is and will be one of the best songs of the year.

The Truth about ACTA

Last week the internet was all about PIPA and SOPA and now that those have temporarily been put on the shelf due to public outcry (and many government and media websites being taken down by hacktivists).  Now there is ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, which establishes international standards on intellectual property.  This was drafted mainly by US multinational corporations and the RIAA and MPAA (which were the sole beneficiars and supporters of PIPA and SOPA (there were a large number of multination corporations that stood against these two bills)).  ACTA establishes an international legal framework and would create a governing body outside established international institutions.  Canada was one of the first countries to join over 6 years ago and has been fully supportive of all the bills that see big businesses wants covered at the expense of their citizens and their privacy.

The Art of Martin Ansin

Martin Ansin is an illustrator from Uruguay who's movie posters are very well known and collested right now.  He just released these two Tron posters which are fantastic.  I love his line-work and the simple colour schemes he employs.

Casa De Mi Padre Trailer

Will Ferrell in a Spanish cowboy/comedy.  Excellent.

Beauty is Embarrassing Trailer

I've familiar with a lot of his work, both as a painter and and his TV and video work but I was totally unaware of the man behind all these different mediums.

Santigold: Big Mouth Video

After too many years Santigold finally is about to release a followup to her debut.  It sounds like the same Santigold with more of a tribal sound.  Click here to go to Santi's website and download the track for free.

Hitler's Britain Documentary

This History Channel documentary reveals Hilter's detailed plans for invading and occupying Great Britain, while controlling and slowly destroying the country.  Although he came close to invading England, he underestimated his enemy and luckily wasn't able to accomplish this and the English people were spared.

Sleigh Bells: Comeback Kid

  Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells

The first real single from the new Sleigh Bells album Reign of Terror, I guess Born to Lose was just a preview.  Both songs are awesome, just as good as anything off the first album, but these songs are much more layered.  The album is out within a month.

An gruesome and hilarious animated video to go with Trash Talks fast and dirty thrash metal.  If you like this song you should get their self titled EP, its 15 minutes of catchy fury.

Kenny Powers is Back!

Here is a preview for the 3rd (and final) season of East Bound & Down which will start at the end of February.  Kenny back on top!

At the Drive-In Reunite!

After 11 years one of the fiercest bands of the turn of the century is back together.  Just as they were about to blow up and maybe achieve mainstream success they self destructed and dissappeared.  I want to see them this summer, I have waited a long time.

WU LYF come to David Letterman

Last week WU LYF made their television debut on David Letterman and performed an even more powerful and inspired version of Heavy Pop then on their excellent debut album, Go Tell Fire to the Mountain.  I can't wait to hear what their follow up album will sound like when released later this year.  Until then I will just have to keep watching this performance, which although its very early in the year will be one of my favorite TV performances of 2012.

The Art of Virgil Finlay

Virgil Finlay (July 23, 1914 – January 18, 1971) was an American pulp fantasyscience fiction and horror illustrator. While he worked in a range of media, from gouache to oils, Finlay specialized in, and became famous for, detailed pen-and-ink drawings accomplished with abundant stippling, cross-hatching, and scratchboard techniques. Despite the very labor-intensive and time-consuming nature of his specialty, Finlay created more than 2600 works of graphic art in his 35-year career.

Anti Piracy

I'm sure most have you have had to sit through this shitty commercial before watching a movie that you have bought or rented.  It turns out the music used was stolen by the MPAA and the composer Melchoir Rietveldt was never contacted.

††† (Crosses) EP ††

01†24†2012
In exactly 3 weeks the second ††† (Crosses) EP will be out and I can't wait.  The first was an excellent surprise and one of my most listened to pieces of music of 2011.  You can never have too much Chino and so far all of the previews have give us no clue as to Chino's vocals.
