Gaia

This one took longer then planned but I went over the top again and spent more time then planned.  I included two different versions so it would be nice to hear what everyone thinks works better.  I'm sure it will be split down the middle just like when I posted two different versions of the picture with the sparrows.  This started as a sketch in the park, and that all it was supposed to be a quick sketch to see if I could draw a near realistic, pretty woman's portrait without a reference.  It's easy to draw monster and fucked up creatures because you can just makeup whatever you want and create your own anatomy, and if I screw something up it may turn into something that I hadn't thought of in the first place, but with something realistic you have to make sure everything is in the right place and the right proportions.  What started as a quick sketch turned into a long sketch because I locked myself out of my apartment and then what started as a sketch for a painting turned into its own fully finished piece.

Gaia Coloured but not finished

I spent yesterday colouring this and it really gave me some problems but I think I'm close now.  This is still a work in progress and the final will not be so vibrant.  It has been about a week since I have posted anything because I haven't got that much work done in the last week because I had a few friends from Sweden here for the weeekend partying and then I needed a few days to recover afterwards.  I hope to be posting a lot more work this week.

Two Different Portraits

I sketched these two out in the park yesterday.  The woman I cleaned up a bit with photoshop and added some highlights and I hope to colour both in the near future.

KRS-One: Listen to the words of the Teacher

I haven't posted anything in a bit now because I have been finalizing the artwork for the new Theocide album for the past few days.  It is almost done and the band is going to press their new CD soon.  Once its ready to go I will post all the new artwork for the album.  Since I haven't posted in about a week now I did this quickly today.  Inspired by the Shepard Fairey campaign posters for Barack Obama and more so by the legendary KRS-One.  If you don't know him go hunt down any of the first three Boogie Down Production albums (Criminal Minded, By All Means Necessary, and Ghetto Music: the Blueprint of Hip Hop).  One of the pioneers of Hip Hop and a philosopher, activist, visionary.  If the world was run by men with his vision and caliber the world would be a much better place to live in.

I included some screen shots I took as I was working to show the piece at a few different stages.

While I was searching for reference pictures I also found a few more of these that are pretty awesome:
