NEW DEFTONES: Leathers
Today the Deftones released a song from their 7th album Koi No Yokan called Leathers. This will not serve as the first single from the album but merely as a preview track. On October 9th the first single Tempest will be released and the album will be released November 13th. Leathers has every element of a great Deftones song and what still sets them apart from every other metal band. It is super aggressive and still has fragile, chillingly beautiful moments. There is no other band like this and they are still way ahead of every other band, showing no signs of becoming boring, old or used up after such a long career of so many highlights. While recording this album they also tracked a series of covers which are rumored to be three Elvis Presley songs and an Earth, Wind and Fire song which they will probably release on a bonus disk. They are also one of the best cover bands, releasing many covers that sound like they wrote them and fit perfectly into their cataloge (some highlights of which I have included underneath the tracklist for Koi No Yokan). Enjoy.

Wikileaks: Julian Assange's The World Tomorrow
During his year and half stint of house arrest (without any charges laid) Julian Assange has been preparing a News program that will debut on RT.com (Russia Today) and their Youtube page on April 17th. The shows guests are being kept secret but in a press release they are said to be "the most interesting and controversial people alive in the world today," including "politicians, revolutionaries, intellectuals, artists and visionaries" to present a "revolutionary spirit." Below Assange describes the show, how he managed to produce it while under arrest and why he chose RT.com to broadcast the show. Having a show like this online is exactly why governments are trying to create laws and pass bill like SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, to curb dissidence, stop free speech, and keep their dirty business secret. It will be interesting what this show will uncover while giving Wikileaks a direct media outlet. While most people have heard about Wikileaks only a small precentage how heard of what they have uncovered.
Pitchfork Media has just revealed that M.I.A. will be providing the music.

The Walkmen: Heaven
One of the hardest working indie rock bands is back with their new album, Heaven, on June 5. The preview seems to indicate that this album will focus more on instrumentation, mood, and atmosphere, then the quick 3 minute pop/rock songs of Lisbon. The best thing about being a fan of this band is that every two years they release a fantastic album and after seeing this preview I am anticipating this release so much more.
Pitchfork interviewed the band about the new album and has some live previews of a few new tracks.

Killer Mike: R.A.P. Music
I've listened to a few Killer Mike song but mostly know him because of guest appearances on other peoples tracks. His latest album, R.A.P. Music comes out in May and is produced in its entirity by El-P, who is definitely my favorite Hip-Hop producer. He is the man that is responsible for the sonic palette of the greatest (in my opinion) Rap album, The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox. Below you can check out the first two singles from R.A.P. Music.

Santigold: Big Mouth Video
After too many years Santigold finally is about to release a followup to her debut. It sounds like the same Santigold with more of a tribal sound. Click here to go to Santi's website and download the track for free.

Sleigh Bells: Comeback Kid
Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells
The first real single from the new Sleigh Bells album Reign of Terror, I guess Born to Lose was just a preview. Both songs are awesome, just as good as anything off the first album, but these songs are much more layered. The album is out within a month.

At the Drive-In Reunite!
After 11 years one of the fiercest bands of the turn of the century is back together. Just as they were about to blow up and maybe achieve mainstream success they self destructed and dissappeared. I want to see them this summer, I have waited a long time.

Anti Piracy
I'm sure most have you have had to sit through this shitty commercial before watching a movie that you have bought or rented. It turns out the music used was stolen by the MPAA and the composer Melchoir Rietveldt was never contacted.

††† (Crosses) EP ††
01†24†2012
In exactly 3 weeks the second ††† (Crosses) EP will be out and I can't wait. The first was an excellent surprise and one of my most listened to pieces of music of 2011. You can never have too much Chino and so far all of the previews have give us no clue as to Chino's vocals.

††† (Crosses) Release Teaser For “EP ††”
The first EP from earlier this summer is one of my most listened to things in the last 6 months so I'm really looking forward to this new EP which if its anything like the first EP will be released this week for free. Lets hope so the sample of music sounds amazing, something a little different for chino to put vocals over.

Islands: This is Not a Song
It didn't take Nick Thorburn very long to release a new album with Islands, having just finished touring with Mister Heavenly. This song is really slow and dark for Islands but the band have sounded different one each of the three previous albums. The new "This is Not a Song" is from the album A Sleep & A Forgetting and it comes out on Feb. 14, 2012.

Sleigh Bells new single Born to Lose
Tis the season...for Sleigh Bells. Sounds loud like their first album but this track has a lot more layers to the sound and is not quite as loud. This sounds like it should be a good thing because it still sounds like the same band that has gone through a few years of evolution.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack
Once again Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are colaborating with director David Fincher on his newest movie, an adapation of the Swedish crime noir The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The duo previously worked with Fincher on The Social Network which they won a best original score Oscar. The soundtrack for this movie contains 3 hours of music and will be available in Mp3, deluxe CD, and a deluxe 6 LP vinyl box. If you click on the album cover below it will take you to Null Corporation Records site where you can download a free 6 track album sampler. Sounds like it will be a very haunting and dark set.
Here is a stream of the first track of the album, a cover of the Led Zeppelin classic Immigrant Song featuring Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs taking over vocal duties.

New Black Star album in 2012?
Sure looks that way. Over the last few days Talib Qweli and Mos Def (now calling himself Yasiin Bey) have released two new singles that may or maynot end up on the album. If this does end up happening, their second ablun together would come out nearly 15 years after theit classic debut. The Fix Up is produced by Madlib and You Already Know was produced by Oh No, Madlib's labelmate and accomplished younger brother.

Real Estate
Here is a new song from Real Estates second album, Days, which comes out October 18th. Their first album was perfect for listening to while relaxing in the sun, so the fall release date is kind of odd, but whatever new Real Estate is always good new no matter the season. Below are a few of my favorite tracks from their first record.

...and one of those albums features Tom Waits. Click on the picture to read about the albums.
This is the coolest portraits of Tom Waits I've seen. It was done by Cosmin Podar. He has a lot of really great portraits on his site.
